The SRL – Social Relations Laboratory – at Rhode Island College conducts research on interpersonal and intergroup behavior. Our research on interpersonal processes is on basic phenomena emerging in the dyadic context of two interacting people. Research on intergroup behavior is focused on interactions of people of different races, social status, genders, and developmental levels. Prior to 2019, the laboratory was supported by grants from the NIH (National Institues of Health through the RI – INBRE Mechanism) with subawards from The University of Rhode Isalnd.
With the support of a U.S. – Israel Bi-National Science Foundation grant (#2018055) from 2019 to 2023, the SRL launched a program of research on Listening in Dyads: Bias, Accuracy, and Meta-Accuracy. With the support of U.S. Israel Bi-National Science Foundation grant (#202280) from 2023-2027, the SRL is conducting research on Lisgening in Dyads: Support, Harm and Interpersonal Consequences. Human language exchange is an evolved mechanism for conflict reduction, coordinated action, and goal attainment.
